General Edmund M. Ulysses (1923-1934) Leader of the Resistance During the Great Emu War of 1932.
In 1932, the Australian Military was dispatched to control the emu population that was devastating crops. Human soldiers, in military vehicles, and heavy artillery vs large birds. Basically, the Emus won. (look it up) When I first heard of this bit of true history, I was compelled to create a portrait of one of the unsung heroes in this hilarious and short-lived conflict, hoping to immortalise one of these brave flightless birds that forced a military to retreat.
Original Painting by J.w.Duwyn, with colours modified using graphic design software to create an antique look.
